Identification: Earwigs are elongated and flattened insects ranging in color from light brown to black. Adults are 1/2 - 3/4" long but are easily identified by the "pinchers" at the end of their abdomen.

Habits: Earwigs require moist, cool places and are found in mulch, flowerbeds, and woodpiles. Inside they are found in basements, crawl spaces and the cooler sections of the home. Once in the home, they feed on sweet, oily or greasy foods and plants.

Control: Exterior treatments with a properly labeled residual insecticide, focusing on the foundation level is the most effective means of control.
