Identification: Citronella ants are 1/8-3/8" long and range from yellow to brown in color. They get their name from the lemon verbena or citronella odor they emit when threatened or crushed.

Habits: Citronella ants are a subterranean species. They are most often noticed when sand is pushed up from under a concrete slab containing a crack. They will also "swarm" in mid to late summer.

Control: The best method to control citronella ants is to directly treat the soil underneath the crack they are entering the structure through. Monroe Pest Control Inc. can rid your structure of these intrusive pests with a combination of residual sprays and/or baits and offer a full warranty upon completion of services.
