Identification:Citronella ants are 1/8-3/8" long and range from a yellow to brown in color. The ants get their name from the lemon verbena or citronella odor they emit when threatened or crushed.
Habits:The citronella ants are a subterranean species. They are most often noticed when sand is pushed up from under a slab by the ants. The ants will also "swarm" in mid to late summer.
Control:The best method to control citronella ants is to treat the crack they are entering the structure through, with an appropriately labeled residual pesticide. Monroe Pest Control Co., Inc. can rid your structure of these ants with a combination of residual sprays and/or baits and we warranty our work.
