Identification: The common name of the Phorid fly (humpback) comes from their humpbacked profile when viewed from the side. Adults are 1/6 to 1/4" in length and are brown to black in color.
Habits: An adult female will lay 1-100 eggs on a food source at one time and up to 750 in a lifetime. Once the eggs hatch, the larvae will feed on moist, decaying organic materials. These flies can be found in garbage cans, drains, or any decaying food source. They can also live in over-watered plants in an office environment.
Control: Removal of their food/water source through proper sanitation.
